KCM SA, Plovdiv produces lead under a classical pyrometallurgical
technology.
The main raw materials are sulphide lead concentrates which are
blended in beds together with the other blend components. The blend
is oxidized and sintered to obtain lead sinter, which is fed to
the shaft furnace and after reduction melting there lead bullion
and slag are obtained. The slag undergoes fuming and the obtained
oxides are roasted and treated in the zinc production plant.
Lead bullion is refined to obtain pure metal. During the refining
process some concomitant products are obtained such as lead-copper
matte, speiss, bismuth lead and DORE metal. All types of lead based
alloys are produced.
