CONCLUSION

International Conference "Lead - Reality and Challenge"

On 15 -16 September 2004 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria eighty specialists in the field of lead production and utilization from Bulgaria, Great Britain, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Turkey, Russia, Poland, Australia, Sweden and Switzerland discussed the following matters:

  • The global marketing status of raw materials for lead production and metals marketing;
  • The status of the resource, production and normative initiatives in Bulgaria and Europe;
  • The development trends of the lead production process method and techniques;
  • Environmental and health risks for people and workers at lead production and utilization and risk control.
  • Lead producers and users joining the European and world organizations and initiatives.

From the presented reports the participants concluded the following:

  • Lead is and remains an important metal for the world and Bulgarian economy which calls for a constant monitoring of the existing and planned trends in raw materials development and especially secondary resource materials.
  • For Bulgaria the application of the European program about the organization of the lead secondary resource material collection remains particularly important, which is to be of economic well as of social and ecological effect. For the achievement of a fast result an important role have the state authorities, namely Ministry of Environment and Waters and Ministry of Economy.
  • The trends in the development of process methods and techniques indicate that the future belongs to those able to universally solve the problems related to the effective investments at low operative expenses and attainment of the environmental and health parameters.
  • Regardless the difficult marketing conditions, lead production trend shows that those manufacturers who are informed about the competitive market conditions, invest in the sustainable development of their companies and in the regions the companies are located can reach to stability and success.
  • EUROMETAUX, LDAI and LZSG participating in the Conference, give the outstanding opportunity for the Bulgarian lead producers and users to join the initiatives related to the lead image improvement, to make suggestions about better normative settlement of the environmental, social and market problems.
  • Meetings of this kind are of significant importance as to the participants' knowledge as well as for sending signals to lead manufacturers, users and state authorities.
